Innovation and sustainability took center stage at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, as Coca-Cola India unveiled a monumental Indian flag crafted entirely from recycled PET (rPET) bottles. This iconic flag, made from approximately 11,000 post-consumer PET bottles and transformed into Global Recycled Standard (GRS)-certified yarn by Go Rewise and Ganesha Ecoverse Limited, was proudly displayed at every match played by India.

🏅 A National Record for Sustainability

The recycled PET India flag has now earned a place in the Limca Book of Records 2025 under the category ‘Largest Flag – Recycled Material’, highlighting Coca-Cola India’s commitment to sustainable change and innovative use of recycled materials.
Part of the Maidaan Saaf campaign, this initiative encourages responsible waste management and fosters long-term behavioral change at scale.

🌱 Impact at Scale

  • 1,000+ volunteers in rPET jackets engaged and educated cricket fans on waste segregation and recycling.
  • Stadiums across 10 cities were kept clean, showcasing the power of collective action.
  • The campaign inspired on-ground action and long-term behavioral change for sustainability.
“This moment is not just about setting a record; it's about reimagining possibilities. At Coca-Cola India, we believe in the power of innovation and collaboration to drive meaningful change. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners ‘Go Rewise’ who played a crucial role in creating the Recycled PET Flags, and to ICC for their invaluable efforts. These flags are a testament to how recycling can transform waste into valuable resources, and their recognition by the Limca Book of Records is a proud moment that reaffirms our progress.”

🔄 The Maidaan Saaf Campaign

Maidaan Saaf, launched in 2023, is an awareness campaign leveraging innovative packaging solutions for greater recyclability and waste reduction. The rPET India flag and volunteer efforts were made possible through collaboration with Go Rewise, Ganesha Ecoverse Limited, and the ICC. Packaging materials were also repurposed, underscoring the campaign’s end-to-end sustainable design.

♻️ Sustainability in Action

Through Maidaan Saaf and broader sustainability interventions, Coca-Cola India continues to reinforce its packaging goals of “Design” and “Partner to Collect”—delivering measurable environmental impact and laying the groundwork for long-term, community-driven behavioral change.
